How early does it start ?

A study shows that babies start to suck their thumbs as early as 15 weeks in the womb. Thumb sucking is also a survival reflex that occurs before birth to ensure babies instinctively. However, it becomes a trigger if continued after 5 years of age as so many complications can happen to babies' teeth.

Common effects of thumb sucking on teeth and bite

Pushes upper front teeth up and forward
Pushes lower front teeth down and back
Gap between upper and lower front teeth
Affects palate by narrowing and distorting it
Affects swallowing and speech.
Affects psychologically due to poor appearance.
